Clarksville is a lovely little town where we estimate about half of the residents are 2nd home owners who come for the lake. Located on Buggs Island Lake (or Kerr Lake on the NC side), this town hosts visitors who boat, fish, sunbathe and relax in this quaint little town. The photo of the Osprey nest above shows a pair of nesting Ospreys who return every year to VA (maybe it really is for lovers.) My parents have lived here more than 20 years and recently moved into town, away from their beloved lake home which had become hard to maintain for a couple in their 80's. You see, VA is for lovers as my parents have been married over 60 years (they've got me & Terry beat by twice the time). We've enjoyed helping them out while mom recovers from surgery. She is doing well but has a 2nd surgery planned later this Summer, and I'll return to help out then too. But for now, we'll move on to NC and see if NC is for lovers too.
When I was growing up in Halifax, VA in the seventies, VA created a promotion to lure tourists to the state -- the catch phrase was Virginia is For Lovers and a slow melodic jingle accompanied the images of couples walking hand in hand along the beach or in the mountains as the sun set. After several decades away, I have returned to the state created for lovers with my husband where we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary!! After two weeks in Clarksville visiting my parents, Terry and the dogs & I will leave tomorrow for the Outer Banks in NC to enjoy cooling off in the Atlantic Ocean.
